Interesting Cow Facts
from Ann Landers, Herald-Sun, 4/18/99
DID YOU KNOW THAT...
1) A cow stands up and sits down about 14 times a day. (I feel sorry for the various grass, chairs, and barstools that have to deal with that butt!!)
2) In the ancient Celtic religion, a black cow symbolizes death. (How 'bout a green one?)
3) A 1,000-pound cow produces an average of 10 tons of manure a year. (And we can sure smell it, huh?!)
4) Brahmans do not moo, they grunt. (UGH! More more!!!)
5) The Chianina breed was depicted by Michelangelo in his art. (Wonder who would want to draw a cow?)
6) There are an estimated 920 different breeds of cows worldwide. (Geez, cows are pretty loose, huh?)
7) In 1930, the first cow to fly was Elm Farm Ollie, who was milked in an airplane. (Milked in an airplane, huh...)
These facts were taken from the book "A Field Guide to Cows," by John Pukite (a man with a lot of free time on his hands!)
